Accident information

The information below is here to guide you on what to do if you’re involved in a collision. It’s not something most people think about until it happens, and in the moment it can feel overwhelming. While I hope you never need this, this page is designed to help you stay calm and know what steps to take if you’re involved in a bump or incident.

1

Stop safely and secure your vehicle
Stop as soon as it is safe to do so (this is a legal requirement). Switch off the engine and turn on your hazard lights.

2

Check for injuries
Check yourself, your passengers, and anyone else involved for injuries.

3

Exchange details
Share names, addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registration numbers, and insurance details with everyone involved and any witnesses. Be prepared to provide your own details if requested.

4

Record the scene
Take photos of the vehicles, damage, and the surrounding area. Save any dashcam footage if available. Do not admit fault — insurance companies will assess liability.

5

Contact the police if required
Call 101 if you’re unable to exchange details, someone leaves the scene, anyone is injured, or you suspect a driving offence. Reports can also be made online.

6

Call emergency services

if there is danger
Dial 999 if someone is seriously injured, in immediate danger, a serious offence has been committed, or your vehicle cannot be moved and is causing a dangerous obstruction.
